Nessebar

Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Europe, famous for its ancient monuments and beautiful medieval and Renaissance architecture. It is located 35 km northeast of Burgas and 5 km from the largest Black Sea resort - Sunny Beach.

The city is located on the northern part of the Burgas gulf, on a rocky peninsula with a length of 850 m and 300 m wide. On this small land, traces of millennial human existence were found. The remains of the Thracian ports and anchors, found in underwater archaeological studies testify to the population in these areas, before the new era. In the 6th century BC the Thracian settlement named Menabria was founded – Mena, after the Thracian chief, and Bria meaning town /thr./ Later the Greeks called it Mesambria and it became a major port where trade flourished and the town has grown rich. In Roman times, in the period of early Christianity, around the 2nd century AD, the production of bronze coins started, many churches were built, walls were raised and the main gates were fortified, protected by pentagonal towers, remains of which are still well preserved. At that time, the town maintained a lively relationship with Constantinople and became the episcopal residence.

In 812 the town was conquered by the Bulgarian Khan Krum, who renamed it Nessebar. In the place where he built his tent to plan and begin the attack on the town, today stands a show-restaurant named "Khans Tent", built in a typical proto-bulgarian (bulgar) style. The remains of 40 churches can be seen in the town itself, the museums are full of materialized history, and when you’ve seen it all – there are plenty small fish-restaurants, serving their classic specialties.

Nessebar is a museum town, it’s architecture has been preserved for several eras, and is visited annually by thousands of tourists. Nessebar is a major sea port, where you can see small boats, tourist boats, beautiful yachts, fishing vessels and cruise liners, leading tourists from around the world to experience the history of past centuries.

Sunny Beach

Sunny Beach is a Bulgarian resort, which is located between the northern and southern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea Riviera, in the municipality of Nessebar. Situated in a gulf in the shape of a crescent, facing east. The northern part of the resort touches the last mountain heights of the Balkan Range, where it borders the town of Sveti Vlas. It’s southern part lies by the ancient town of Nessebar.

It’s rapid growth made it the biggest resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The southern part of the resort has already merged with the new part of Nessebar.

There are regular transport connections with regional centres - Burgas (40 km) and Varna (90 km). The climate is characterized by 1700 hours of sunshine, from May to October. The resort has a beach with a length of 10 km and a width of 30-60 meters, fine golden sand and natural sand dunes (which grow 16 species of rare plants), the sea has a flat sandy bottom.

Sunny Beach offers many opportunities for sport and entertainment: surfing, water skiing, sailing, tennis clubs, horse riding, indoor and outdoor pools, mini-golf. There are many restaurants, shops and stalls (over 15,000). The complex hosts the international festivals “Golden Orpheus”, “Days of symphony music”, international folklore festivals, fashion shows and various beach competitions.

After construction of the highway "Black Sea", Sunny Beach will be recognized as a major social-economic centre in Eastern Bulgaria.
